Death in Love Boat

We have published the news that Pacific Princess, the ship where “The Love Boat” was mainly shot is being demolished in İzmir / Turkey. Today we got sad news from her. 8 workers were poisoned from water pump exhaust while they were trying to pump out water from the flooded engine room. Unfortunately 2 of the workers were reported dead.

Working safety is a major concern in ship breaking yards and it needs to be established in the first place. We do not know if they used the ships own pumps, but most probably they brought in a mobile pump. A new law passed from the parliament that every industrial plant should have a working safety expert lately, but seems like Turkey needs to speed it up.
