Kaçak
“Kaçak” a Turkish word which means “deserter” is also the name given to a wind specific to the sea of Marmara. Kaçak is a very sudden and strong wind which sink so many ships in Marmara.
Maria Sezer, a Dutch artist living in Istanbul since 1977 made this sculpture. It is inspired from the big pebbles found in ancient Theodosius port excavations. The port was found while the Marmaray intercontinental train tunnel project was going on. The sculpture was supported by Turkey and Netherlands. Built in 2010 European culture capital events and a plate was placed at the site in 2012, at 400th anniversary of Turkish-Dutch diplomacy.
