A ferry ride between two continents…

After spending a night with friends, i woke up to a beautiful sunny Kadıköy Sunday. Kadıköy is the most centeral town on Anatolian side of Istanbul. There are alternative ways to get back home, but wouldn’t you prefer to take the ferry if you were me? I bet you would… So i walked down to the pier and got onboard M/S Beşiktaş 1 . She was built in 1986, the year i was born, by Haliç Shipyard in Istanbul. She has  17 sisters, the 10 earlier built ones  have slight differences. They sail on the bussy bosphorus straight everyday, tie the two sides of Istanbul. The ferries are a break in Istanbul’s busy life. Whenever i have time, i try to take a ferry to anywhere. I used to sail onboard M/S Paşabahçe to Prince’s Islands and come back again when she was still in service. She was my favourite ferry which i will write more details about. Here i post some pictures of my small trip which is a daily one for many people in Istanbul.

Istanbul Ferry Ride between two continents M/S Beşiktaş 1

Waiting to leave. Stern andchor surely is usefull for hanging bags. The Haydarpaşa train station seen behind may be the only one ending up at sea and has a pier…

If you want to spice up your fishing experience, try it in the middle of a busy straight. These fellas force the ferry captains to take sharp manuevers sometimes, or cause trouble. You wouldn’t like the idea to be under course of a tanker i guess…

Finally caught her!

M/S Beşiktaş 1

Say goodbye to Beşiktaş 1 and jump into Sirkeci to buy tomatos to plant 🙂

I’ll try to post more about these ferries and other vessels of Istanbul as frequent as i can.
