Daniel Stricker’s scale model ships

scale model ship plans and Daniel Stricker's model ships

One of the best benefits of having this web site is meeting scale model ship makers all around the world. This time, i found Mr. Daniel Stricker’s e-mail in my inbox. He built a Clyde Puffer from the Lochinvar Clyde Puffer plans, shared photos of his work and added some kind words about our work here. Then i encouraged him to share more of his scale model ships, and here they are for you.

He is building scale model ships for 35 years now. He says, he always liked to work on scale model ships like Clyde Puffers, Tugs, Passenger-cargo type coasters, even junks. Most of them are dynamic models.

He only makes models from plans to scale, and every part is handmade. He makes hulls by wood planking and the rest are composite. He respects the accuracy of the model ship as much as possible.

What is your opinion about material use? There are scale model makers who think models should strickly be made out of wood, and there ones who think any material can be used as long as it looks realistic. Please share your opinion with us on the comments section below the article.

Puffers are simple yet beautiful boats to make models. Although they are not so hard to build, the stern can be a bit painful when you start bending tiles because of funny angles. Some people prefer to fill in between the frames. But as we see here, Daniel wrapped the hull completely with planks.

The row boat seems to be finished before the puffer. Hull is almost finished, superstructure to be prepared next. Well, nothing much to build, a wheel house, a single hold and covers for it, and some machinery to the fore part. But a model ship shows herself in details right?

In the end, after all the time sawing, glueing, planking, sandingi painting we end up with a beautiful model ship. The best part is to take a chair next to your finished model ship, grab your favourite drink, and watch the fruit of your efforts. That is the time all the complaints about the mess you made in the house sounds like symphony.

Daniel named his puffer “NESSIE”. After all, she is a Scottish boat and it is good to remember our beloved mysterious friend living in Loch Ness. Definitely a perfect name!

Daniel shared more of his work like Paddle steamer Coligny, Emerald Coast Tug etc. Here they are for you.

I once again thank Mr. Daniel Stricker for sharing his beautiful models. Please feel free to share your own models with us.
