After a long break

I have been getting e-mails about the status of this website, rightfully they are pointing out the fact that it is not being updated for a long time. Although i tried to help inquiries about the content or local information, nothing new added for a blong time.

First of all, i want to apologize for keeping this area at idle. We don’t have a very large audience, but a niche community mostly with deep interest. You would not believe how this little area helped researches, provided connections, revealed stories of people, and became source for books. I am very happy about all these.

During the last years, i don’t have a short explanation, life happened. My professional life got busier, family health issues, personal issues came one after another and broke my motivation. Especially after a tragic issue i experienced, even looking at sea brought back memories that i did not want to remember. But, everything passes, what is left behind is life itself in the end. Maybe it is time to let everything sink in, and try to continue…

It has been over 15 years since i started this place. First it was just to try to build a website, then it became what it is. There were a couple of friends who were helping out but for a long time, i am a one man band. There are things that i have in mind to make here a better place, but i don’t really have the time and energy to do all. With small steps, maybe.

First of all, even without adding anything new, i could not let this place wanish. There is lots of effort spent, and there are beautiful stories came up by the post. But i have to tell, it is not easy to maintain the site. It has a very small income by google ads which does not cover the expenses. I could turn things around with some black friday sales on hosting and domain fees. I also cover some shortages. I did not want to commercialize the area but maybe with alternative methods, i can enable better content and area.

I wanted to create a forum where builders can discuss on their projects, there are few examples that i could use but to set this up takes time and research.

I wanted to create more content for our youtube channel, but it has been years without building any scale model ship, so the content is mainly on shipspotting.

I want to draw more plans for you to build. This takes a lot of time, trial and error, restart and so on… Learning a 3d modelling software would help.

Well, can not focus and write what i think and feel properly. I will try to add more content and stay active again. Please feel free to contact me. And let me know if you ever stop by Istanbul, i will be happy to buy you a cup of çay onboard a classic Istanbul city lines ferry 🙂
