Kon-Tiki is another film based on a true story. The movie is about Norwegian scientist Thor Heyerdahl who sailed on a balsa raft from south America to Polynesian islands to proove that these islands could be populated by ancient people who traveled this distance by a raft.
Heyerdahl built a balsa raft in Peru and named his expedition Kon-Tiki which is the Inca sun god. He used only the technics and materials available at that time to show that the voyage is possible. Erik Hesselberg, Bengt Danielsson, Knut Haugland, Torstein Raaby and Herman Watzinger joined Heyerdahl in this journey.
The raft had a few modern equipment like Radio, watches, a sextant and metal knives. Their journey started on April 28 1947 and they ended up in Tumaotu islands after sailing 101 days on Pacific. They all landed safely and returned.
