There are many movies influenced by the events taken place during world war 2. Few of them are about naval warfare. Konvoi, or “The Arctic Convoy” as it is titled in English, is another example.
The supply chain of the allied forces were under great threat of German navy. The U-boat fleet was hunting the convoys, the Luftwaffe was another fear when the convoys were within the range. The Arctic convoy PQ-17 was planned to leave Iceland and reach port of Arkhangelst in Soviet Union. But they were discovered by German forces and 24 of 35 ships were lost.
The movie was influenced by the story of tanker ship Troubador. But they used museum ship D/S Hestmanden to model the ship for the movie. There are fair amount of scenes in the engine room which gives nice views of the seam engine.
The movie generally runs around the tension between the commander and the first officer, decisions challenged by eachother under pressure.
The director of the movie is Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken, starring Anders Baasmo as captain of the ship, Skar; Tobias Santelmann as Mørk, Heidi Ruuk Ellingsen as Ragnhild who also is a reference to Fern Sunde, and many other talented actors.
Enjoy watching! Which is your favourite movie about ships? Let us know in the comments.
