SCILLONIAN
For scale model ship makers, choosing a ship plan to build is a hard task. For most model makers, the joy is not just in building, but also bringing heritage back alive, or having a piece of maritime culture in hand. Therefore, ships which hold a place in local culture, or historical events, or which are just blended so much in scenery as city furnitures have always a charm. This time, we are sharing the ferry Scillonian’s model ship plans with you.
In 1954, Isles of Scilly Steamship Company needed to replace their their aging ferry, so they ordered a new one to be built. John I. Thornycroft & Company located in Southampton undertook this task and in 1955, the new ferry met the water. She replaced the old Ferry and took her name aswell, which was “Scillonian”. But she is also known as Scillonian II. Well, there is a third one which is still active today which was built in 1977 and the 4th to replace her is on the way, just for information.
63.4 meters long, 9.1m wide Scillonian made 15.5 knots by a pair of six cylinder diesel engines. 14 crew served a capacity of 500 passengers. She served between the isles of Scilly and mainland. After arrival of the third ferry, she was sold to P&O and got the name Devonia. She ran on Thames for a while, Lundy island and worked as an oil rig ferry too.
In 1982 Torbay Seaways acquired the ship and renamed her Devoniun, saving a lot of work on replacing the whole name aboard. In 1984 Norse Atlantic Ferries got her and renamed Syllingar. She survived until 2004 under the names of Remvi, Africa Queen, Princess Eliana and Olga J. In 2004, the ship sank in Bourgas.

The plan is a single image file with all the details needed. It is not a very complicated model ship to build, but looks very nice for sure. Would be a fun hobby project. Enjoy building, and don’t forget to share your progress with us.
