Been a long while since a new scale model ship plan was added here. After a brief look at the options i came across with US Coast Guards 82 foot Point Class patrol boat plans, which i saw on the movie “Overboard” starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell recently. The boat on the film was Point Evans PWB 82354. So maybe, this could be your new model boat project.
The wooden 83 foot coast guard patrol boars were aging, so it was decided to be replaced by a new design. The answer to this need was the Point Class coast guard cutters, although they were not called like this at first. The Coast Guard was not naming vessels shorter than a hundred feet. Then the rule was changed and these boats were named after geographical points.
These patrol boats have steel hulls with longitudinal frames and alluminum superstructure to reduce weight. They were equipped with various different type of power plants but in the end 800hp diesel engines were selected. With dimensions 82’10” long 17’7” wide the boats were capable of 18 knots, max 22 knots with 9 knots economic cruise speed. Point Class patrol boats also has history in Vietnam apart from their search and rescue and patrol missions.
USCG Point Barnes was launched in April 21st 1970 by Coast Guard Yard Curtis Bay and she served until 2000. Then she was transfered to Jamaica.
The plans of uscg Point Barnes are on tiff files, deck plans, profile plans and hull lines.
