Hora Light House

Built in 1861. The lighthouse mechanism was brought from France, the tower was built with cast iron panels and steel structure and maintains original state. Tower is 20 meters high from ground level and 50 meters high from sea level. Hora lighthouse was renamed as Hoşköy Lighthouse later on.
The beam reaches up to 19 nautical miles. The characteristic of the lighthouse is Gp.Fl.W(2).ş0.5.k2.ş0.5.k7
which means Group Flashing White 2 10 seconds. So, one white flashe for 0.5 seconds, 2 seconds dark, 0.5 seconds white flash, then dark for 7 seconds, and repeat. When sailors spots this pattern, they check with their charts and confirm which land reference they see and navigate accordingly.
First kerosene lanterns were used in the lighthouse, which later was replaced by LPG gas lamps and in the end, 1000 watt electric lamps were installed. 3 optic panels are used with focal length of lenses 375mm. They float over a mercury pool forming a triangle. The light source rests in the focal point and the panels rotate on the mercury pool. The rotation was achieved by a clockwork mechanism which was powered by gravity. Aheavy weight hanging was hand cranked up then let gravity move the mechanism until the weight reaches down. These mechanism and panels were later removed and kept for display. Now the tower is powered by electric motors and photocell sensors.
In 2022, the building complex was rented out and there are special events take place from time ti time. Unfortunately, it is not possible to visit the lighthouse except the declared dates.

Kurtarma 8, along with her sisters, work for Turkish Directorate General of Coastal Safety @kiyiemniyet and they escort ships through Istanbul Strait, guard the bosphorus coasts for any incident and perform salvage missions.
