Lena

The wind power meets the power of steam in late 1800’s . In this period of maritime history, a hybrid generation of ships appeared combining these two. They kept the glory of sail ships and added independency from wind. Lena is a little steam schooner like that.

lena steam schooner model ship plans

She was launched in 1875 in Sweden by Motala. She was 26.8m long, 4.95m wide and 2.59m deep. While sailing by wind, the funnel tilts back so that the sail boom can move freely.

She has an interesting story beginning with Nils Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld’s polar expedition. She joined the expedition as an auxilary ship up to a point. She took part in Russian revolutions which i could not translate well enough to write here. She was reconstructed several times. Once in 1938. She was extended two meters in lengtg, a new boiler was installed and living quarters were rebuilt.

In 1959, she was planned to be reserved as a historical vessel. But the attemts failed in 1967, the damage she suffered was beyond repair. But the model ship builders will help her to live forever.

The model plan set is distributed on two sheets. Very detailed and prepared for model ship building hobby.

Hello. We generally come across this problem with Firefox browser. Please try to download with Chrome. We will change all .rar files with .zip soon.

Hello, I just downloaded the plans and spent all day re drawing them to a 1 to 1 scale so I can take the plans to my garage workshop. hopefully she will be slightly over 1 metre long and have an electric motor as well as the sails. I managed to find an electronic authentic steamboat engine sound and if the build goes well I may consider it. Its my first boat build although I have built a number of aircraft before so i’m not new to modelling. I think there are a couple of details missing on the plan because arrows point at certain things and give them a number however only some of the numbers are shown as enlarged details. Any advice? thanks Also any more pics available anyone?

Hi Captain, I’m not sure you recieved my last comment so I’ll try again! I found this lovely boat and downloaded the plans then I spent most of the weekend re scaling them so that the boat will be just over 1metre long. 4cm to 1metre scale. I noticed that the details are numbered on the plan but not all the numbers are visible as a close up detail! Is some of the plan missing? It won’t be a problem but would be nice to have a little extra info or photos. Has anyone else made this with photos to share? Or do you know of any sites on the internet that might be able to help? Thanks. Alan

Captain, Lena is doing well, she’s been on the water twice now although not finished yet. I will hopefully get her deck fitted within the next few days and then it’s just the masts sails and finishing touches. She’s absolutely great. (IMHO) Alan
